Over the decades, certain very special individuals have come along and made their mark on the Quarter Horse breed. Their achievement is the result of several factors that come together to make that individual a ‘great one’.
The stallions that stand the test of time must possess outstanding physical qualities, great showmanship and that certain indistinguishable quality that you know when you see it. However, it takes more than these qualities to become a horse that goes down in history.
Everyone wants a winner and accomplishments in the show ring will certainly contribute to the reputation of any great horse.
Pedigree is important. Are the descendents in the pedigree the stuff of legend? Are they going to help this individual pass on the traits desired by the industry?
Finally, and this may be most important, is timing. History is defined by things and events which come together in a serendipitous meeting to make history.
At first glance, Self Employed seems to be a stallion who has been identified as the next great one. At 2 years old, he has the conformation and showmanship to triumph at the top levels of the sport. Those who witnessed him being chosen Grand Champion Stallion at the 2006 All-American Quarter Horse Con-gress can attest to this. His victory is the first mark in the history books for this outstanding young stallion.
Self Employed’s pedigree stands on its own and possesses those descendents that are coveted by top breeders in our industry.
And his arrival as a young, up-and-coming sire couldn’t have been scripted any better. You see, Self Employed is HYPP N/N. Everyone is aware of the rule that is to be implemented by AQHA for 2007 regarding the registration of HYPP-affected horses. This rule, which designates that foals who are born HYPP H/H will not be eligible for AQHA registration, has sent those within the industry in search of great N/N sires. And along comes Self Employed.
Self Employed will make his next appearance at the 2006 AQHA World Championship Show with Ted Turner in 2 Year-Old Stallions. We are proud of his accomplishments so far this year and we can’t wait to see what the future holds.
While you are at the World, feel free to stop by the Turner Ranch stalls and see Self Employed. We know you will see the same special qualities in him that we have seen all along. |
